St Martin's Methodist Church

Messy Church

Until fairly recently, the church had a proud history of Girls’ and Boys’ Brigade Companies.  In 2012, with the retirement of their leaders, these Companies ceased to meet. Nevertheless, the work continued by way of the newly introduced "Messy Church" and a new zeal for the work of the 'Friday Club' for young people over the age of eleven, an outreach very much at the heart of our mission to our community.

For the last few years we have been running "Messy Church" every third Friday of the month.

"Messy" was the inspired idea of Lucy Moore and her friends for outreach work with children and parents, which began in a small way in 2004 and has now spread all over the world.

Jesus said: "I am the true vine" &  "I am the light of the world".

Theme-based craft activities Stories and songs in worship time Sharing a meal together afterwards

Continuing the work with our young people.
In classic style we provide some eight or nine craft activities, based around a Bible theme. This is followed up in a short worship celebration with the children in the church, with story telling, songs and video clips, while other helpers prepare the tables in the Hall for a hot meal shared together.

Our "Messy Church" now has some 20 children on the register plus their carers and we see regularly an average attendance of 12 to 16 children plus the adults.

"Open the Door" - a local variant of "Open the Book" - unfortunatesly was another casualty of Covid
